Did any of you SAS folks know that yesterday, Oct 20, 2010, was World Statistics Day (WSD)? I missed it!
Why a World Statistics Day?
“…to raise awareness of the many achievements of official statistics premised on the core values of service, professionalism and integrity.”
I’d encourage you to browse the site, particularly for any of the activities that happened in your Country (scroll down the page).
I found some great papers posted under Canada. Of note were 3 documents around the planning or adminstrative functions of general statistics programs. I find these types of documents very helpful:
- Policy on Informing Survey Respondents
- Characteristics of an Effective Statistical System
- Managing Data Quality in Statistical Agency
For next year’s WSD, I think someone should produce T-shirts that stats people around the world could wear. I’m not the only one who thinks so. Another blogger wrote about WSD and a comment appeared for that post:
I’m wearing my “I do my own statistics stunts” t-shirt.
Next year to commemorate WSD, I say we all wear Bazinga t-shirts.
