Sometime very recently, probably while you weren’t looking, I changed jobs at SAS (yes, again). This time it’s a bigger change for me, because I’m no longer part of the SAS R&D organization, where I’ve worked for nearly 14 years. Instead, I’m part of the team known internally as Professional Services, and more commonly known to the rest of the world as “SAS consulting.”
I’m not one of those consultants who gets to jet around on special assignment and help customers to solve their problems using SAS. Those folks have a great job, but they are like the “James Bond” of SAS — if SAS had a Secret Service, it would be staffed by SAS consultants.
No, my job is more like “Q”, where I get to build some of the nifty things that our “special agents” can put into service on your behalf. I work for a team called the Global Services Factory; we identify the “SAS gadgets” that are most useful for a variety of customer engagements, and we build and support them. (I also get to move to the newest SAS building, the LEED-certified Building C, with its awesome architecture and cafe.)
Even though my reporting structure and title has changed, I hope that my blog readers won’t notice much that’s different. I’ll still be here, sharing what I’ve learned about SAS, SAS Enterprise Guide, and other topics. I’ll still drop in on the discussion forums. I can still be found on Twitter. And I hope to still attend SAS user group events, when invited.
