User Groups: WUSS meets in Hollywood this Year!

Okay – not exactly Hollywood – but it’s only 30 minutes away – so you could visit during the evening or stay the weekend after the conference to do some star-sightings.   Long Beach is outside of Los Angeles and close to Hollywood!  It’s not too late to sign up for the Western Users of SAS Software (WUSS) conference in Long Beach, CA the same week as Labor Day (Sept 5 -7). Early registration ends August 6, but for a few extra dollars you can register anytime this month.  I spoke with Scott Leslie, the Academic Program Chair, earlier this week and it’s excited about the conference and reminded me of all the great things going on.  I had a few questions for him.   Will Captain Kirk be There? Scott could not confirm if Bill Shatner or Leonard Nimoy would make an appearance but SAS Institute is sending some of their superstars.  You can see complete details at the SAS Presenter’s page – here’s some highlights: Diane Hatcher is presenting information about how to set up a report approval process using the new  SAS® 9.3 Integration Technologies.   Allison Booth provides some tips for using Proc Report.  She’s a great speaker and don’t […]

Business Intelligence: Good Things to Share!

I have been very busy in the past month writing guest post for some of the different blogs that I follow and find interesting.  I’ve also been reading some books that I wanted to share with you! Blogging! Blogging! and More Blogging! Here’s some of the guest posts that I have contributed around the web.  Password Encoding with SASPaul Homes writes the most incredible blog (Platform Administrator) for SAS system administrators.  I was honored when he asked me to contribute to his blog – considering I’m nowhere near the powerhouse of administration knowledge he is. However, I did have one tip about how to encode your password and use it in SAS programs or SAS Enterprise Guide profiles.   User Conferences = Busy SummerWaynette Tubbs seems to be the social media face for SAS.  Her blog about the SAS User Groups always has a few gems.   She asked to reprint one of my other blog posts about the conferences I’m planning to attend this summer. I did appreciate that folks who have already contacted me to let me know I would be seeing them in Milwaukee, London, and Long Beach.  Woot! Woot!  [Make sure you follow Waynette on Twitter – @waynettetubs]  […]

Crash the Party at All Analytics …

I have been calling us data geeks – but turns out our new name is actually the more respectable data scientist. Wonder if we get white lab coats with our names over the pocket? That would be so cool. Anyway, check out AllAnalytics.Com – there is a community of folks talking about big data, data analysis, and even trends for the future.  Great Place to Get Ideas     AllAnalytics.Com is a great resource for SAS users – they discuss a lot of the topics that we work with everyday. I love learning about all the different ways us data scientists are solving problems.  Today they are discussing how those personals – Find Your Mate sites work.  I say you cannot apply analytics to love … but maybe I’m a romantic scientist.     Chance to Win a Free Copy of BI Book   Next Friday at 2 PM (EST), AllAnalytics.Com is hosting my co-author, Angela Hall, and I to talk about our new book, Building Business Intelligence with SAS: Content Development Examples.  So Angela and I will be available to discuss the writing process, working with SAS Press, and even answer some of your BI questions.  SAS Press has donated two copies of […]

Business Intelligence and Data Management Resources

Last week I was interviewed in an e-chat with Shawn Hessinger, AllAnalytics.Com,  about deploying BI tools to help build your business.   It was a great interview and lots of amazing discussion with some really smart people. He summarized the discussion in this article: 6 Steps to a Successful BI Deployment. [If you visit the site please leave a comment about how smart the discussion sounded ] AllAnalytics has a lot of great information about managing data, using business intelligence and just general analytics topics.  It’s a data geek’s paradise – and you know who you are!       Also – in my BlogRoll (right corner, near the bottom) I note a lot of other awesome blogs and sites with yummy information for you.
