There’s a lot of talk about the gap between the demand for analytics talent and the short supply. Jennifer Priestley of Kennesaw State led a panel at Analytics 2013 to discuss how universities are minding the gap. I caught up with her to ask what sch…

User Groups: WUSS meets in Hollywood this Year!

Okay – not exactly Hollywood – but it’s only 30 minutes away – so you could visit during the evening or stay the weekend after the conference to do some star-sightings.   Long Beach is outside of Los Angeles and close to Hollywood!  It’s not too late to sign up for the Western Users of SAS Software (WUSS) conference in Long Beach, CA the same week as Labor Day (Sept 5 -7). Early registration ends August 6, but for a few extra dollars you can register anytime this month.  I spoke with Scott Leslie, the Academic Program Chair, earlier this week and it’s excited about the conference and reminded me of all the great things going on.  I had a few questions for him.   Will Captain Kirk be There? Scott could not confirm if Bill Shatner or Leonard Nimoy would make an appearance but SAS Institute is sending some of their superstars.  You can see complete details at the SAS Presenter’s page – here’s some highlights: Diane Hatcher is presenting information about how to set up a report approval process using the new  SAS® 9.3 Integration Technologies.   Allison Booth provides some tips for using Proc Report.  She’s a great speaker and don’t […]

SAS User Groups: Inspiring Visit to SAS UK Professional Conference

Each conference I attend, I walk away with a dozen ideas for the blog posts, SAS programs, and future papers and presentations.  The SAS UK Professional Forum was no different.  Plus I learned how to really speak English from the British – you should be glad they got me “sorted” and now I’m in the right “bit”.  SAS BI Book was Key to BI Content Exam The first day of the conference is dedicated to taking the SAS Certification exams.  It was nice because SAS had created study groups several months earlier and used a team approach for taking the exam.  So all the folks interested in the SAS BI exams were placed in a group and encouraged to study together.   On the day of the exam, the SAS team offered some last-minute tips and encouragement.  Here’s a picture of the folks who took the SAS BI Content and Admin exams.  These three fellows were some of the ones who made sure I knew that the Building Business Intelligence with SAS book was helpful. Thanks Chris Dillion (@CMDillon) for supplying the study group with the book. Paul Dutton passed the exam in 12 minutes.  He said his key was reading the […]
