SAS User Groups: Inspiring Visit to SAS UK Professional Conference

Each conference I attend, I walk away with a dozen ideas for the blog posts, SAS programs, and future papers and presentations.  The SAS UK Professional Forum was no different.  Plus I learned how to really speak English from the British – you should be glad they got me “sorted” and now I’m in the right “bit”.  SAS BI Book was Key to BI Content Exam The first day of the conference is dedicated to taking the SAS Certification exams.  It was nice because SAS had created study groups several months earlier and used a team approach for taking the exam.  So all the folks interested in the SAS BI exams were placed in a group and encouraged to study together.   On the day of the exam, the SAS team offered some last-minute tips and encouragement.  Here’s a picture of the folks who took the SAS BI Content and Admin exams.  These three fellows were some of the ones who made sure I knew that the Building Business Intelligence with SAS book was helpful. Thanks Chris Dillion (@CMDillon) for supplying the study group with the book. Paul Dutton passed the exam in 12 minutes.  He said his key was reading the […]

User Groups: Will I see You at the SAS UK Professional Convention?

This week (July 10-12) the SAS UK Professional Convention takes place at the SAS UK Headquarters ( Marlow, England). Here’s some highlights and you can find a complete agenda here. Information is Beautiful (David McCandless) whose blog and book Information Is Beautiful are dedicated to visualising ideas, issues, knowledge and data – all with the minimum of text. SAS Visual Analytics  demonstration, which I hope is similar to the one from the SAS Global Forum.  It was really amazing. Wed. Breakout Session Topics Analytics Architecture Customer Intelligence High Performance Hints & Tips Information Management Business Intelligence I’ll be presenting a paper about using Google Analytics with the SAS BI system, which Angela and I presented at SAS Global Forum.  It really helps the user understand how data can be moved from outside systems, manipulate, and surface in the SAS BI tools. I’ll have some books to giveaway to a few lucky attendees! Guy Garrett, who has been a guest blogger here, also will be talking about implementing a BI strategy […]

User Conferences = Busy Summer

It’s going to be a busy summer with a lot of travel.  I’ve been invited to several user conferences so I’m really excited to get to meet even more SAS users, pick up some great tips for others, and wear myself out chatting.  Wisconsin Illinois SAS Users Summer ConferenceMilwaukee, WIJune 27 This SAS user group is having a summer conference [Conference Brochure]  in Milwaukee, WI on June 27th. I have never been to Wisconsin so I’m really excited to spend at least one day there.  Summerfest, the world’s largest music festivals opens on the same day! At this conference I’ll be talking about the first steps to creating SAS stored processes and offer 25 tips for using SAS Enterprise Guide.  I just finished the presentations yesterday – I’m really exhausted but the presentations are going to be fun.  For the SAS Enterprise Guide topic I’m using some UFO data and interweaving UFO trivia with the presentation. I need to find tin foil hats for us all to wear – so the aliens cannot read our SAS brain waves.  You totally know we would be asked to analyze alien trends – how to improve time warp speed … etc. But it won’t […]
