A viral video that was 47 years in the making

When he filmed the scene in the summer of ’69, my Dad did not foresee his moment of fame in 2016. But in the last two days, Dad has seen his 47-year-old work appear in the local Buffalo, NY media, on DailyMail.com, and on FOX News*. In August of 1969, […]

Business Intelligence: Good Things to Share!

I have been very busy in the past month writing guest post for some of the different blogs that I follow and find interesting.  I’ve also been reading some books that I wanted to share with you! Blogging! Blogging! and More Blogging! Here’s some of the guest posts that I have contributed around the web.  Password Encoding with SASPaul Homes writes the most incredible blog (Platform Administrator) for SAS system administrators.  I was honored when he asked me to contribute to his blog – considering I’m nowhere near the powerhouse of administration knowledge he is. However, I did have one tip about how to encode your password and use it in SAS programs or SAS Enterprise Guide profiles.   User Conferences = Busy SummerWaynette Tubbs seems to be the social media face for SAS.  Her blog about the SAS User Groups always has a few gems.   She asked to reprint one of my other blog posts about the conferences I’m planning to attend this summer. I did appreciate that folks who have already contacted me to let me know I would be seeing them in Milwaukee, London, and Long Beach.  Woot! Woot!  [Make sure you follow Waynette on Twitter – @waynettetubs]  […]

Career: Secrets from a Professional SAS Recruiter

He’s an experienced technical recruiter so I think you’ll find this information particularly insightful. He offers a good mix of traditional job search strategies and ways to leverage social media for your job search. Working with SAS Recruiters As for working with SAS or specialty recruiters, the technology world is most times defined by skill sets or product expertise. In SAS for example, there is a big difference between a SAS/Stat Programmer and a SAS BI/Analytics skill set. For my money, the KISS method applies in either case. So to begin with, keep your resume simple and straightforward. Tell the reader what you can do, what your best expertise is, and what you are looking to do with your career next. Our screening process here at PITech Solutions, for instance, has a focus on the individual. Of greatest importance to us is to clearly understand what kind of position you are really looking for, or put another way – what is the ideal job for you? What do you see as your strongest expertise in the IT field at this point in your […]

Demystifying how text analytics can detect cyberbullying

Facebook now uses technology to help detect instances of cyberbullying before it gets out of hand. I heard this report on CNN last week, and the Facebook spokesman described their detection techniques as “background technology that I can’t really…
